"Witness to Revolution" Opens at MoAR

Special exhibition, now open through Jan. 5, 2025, at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. Curated by Matt Skic and designed by RWD. John Branigan was our Art Director.

Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent brings to life the stories of individuals from all walks of life who saved Washington’s tent from being lost over the generations and who ultimately fashioned this relic into a symbol of the fragile American republic. It brings together inspiring works of art, rare documents, and significant historical objects from public and private collections across the United States.

Trust Central Opens at US Pharmacopeia

At long last, Trust Central, our new installation in the lobby of the United States Pharmacopeia in Rockville, MD, has opened. Created under the guidance of archivist and historian Geeta Tirumalai, the artifact-rich exhibition celebrates USP’s 200 years of setting the standards that help build trust in medicines and supplements. Look for “USP” on the drugs you buy - it’s everywhere. In the US, we hardly think twice about the purity, safety, and efficacy of medicines, thanks in great part to USP. And they work every day to help other countries establish the same trust.

Busstop Museum Concept

If you can’t bring people into the museum, bring the museum to the people! Roger Westerman Design LLC is ready and willing to develop this concept with a cultural organization looking to honor the visitors who give museums a purpose.

  • Collect stories and ideas during live community events. Community members also get a chance to share and talk about their personal treasures and their heritage.

  • Display artifacts (or reproductions) in glass boxes added into repurposed bus shelter advertising space.

  • Provide digital opportunities for listening to stories, music, or watching videos on personal devices.

RWD exhibited at the New England Museum Association in Falmouth, MA.  It was great to see old friends and make new ones!  Roger enjoyed describing what an exhibition designer does to many attendees.

Harriet Beecher Stowe house reopens!

June 10, 2017

After two years of hard work, audience testing, and refining the designs, Stowe's house has reopened, forming the core of the new visitor experience.  The project started with brainstorming sessions guided by Linda Norris.  They included a broad range of community stakeholders, content experts, and leaders in many fields, including theater, education, and history.   The Stowe Center staff, directed by Katherine Kane, took a big risk, transforming several of the historically furnished rooms into a new, participatory visitor experience.  RWD consulted as exhibition designer, conceptualizing how to translate the educational goals into a tour, including multimedia, artifact displays, and graphics.  Northern Light Productions did a fantastic job with a film piece that expresses the inner turmoil that drove Stowe to write Uncle Tom's Cabin, as well as several audio productions.   The project was run by Shannon Burke, Director of Education and Visitor Services, and Cindy Cormier, Project Curator.
